Obituary of Sammy Pearson Sr.

~Family Man, Consummate Entrepreneur, Dedicated Man of God
are just a few words to describe Sammy Jewel Pearson Sr . who transitioned from his earthly labor to
his heavenly reward on Tuesday , September 26th at his home of 50 years . Sammy was born and raised
in Avinger , Tx and moved to Dallas in 1961 after graduating from Traylor High School in Hughes
Springs , Tx . He married the love of his life Sarah Jeanette Stanton on April 8 , 1964 . After several starter
jobs this trailblazer went to work for Ben E Keith in 1968 . While climbing the ladder of success on his
fulltime job of 35 years , Sammy’s burning desire to own his own business and help others was realized.
This hardworking country boy ended up owning several businesses including a cab company , body
shop , feed store and car lot . He was also a caring and compassionate landlord . But his family shared
his heart with his other loves his music and his farm . In the early 70’s he formed a band called Sammy
and the Jumping Jacks where he played drums . He enjoyed telling stories about his band days and
opening up for blues singers like B.B King and Bobby Blue Bland . While he loved music , he was still a
country boy at heart and his farm gave him much joy . Sammy could be found at any time of the day or
night on his farm tending to his animals , mending fences and anything else that needed to be done . His
son , grandsons and neighborhood boys were also farmhands from time to time . Sammy lived his life in
service to others , giving to those in need , praying for the sick , visiting the shut-in , working on various
church auxiliaries and singing in the choir . His favorite song was I’m On The Battlefield For My Lord.
He was a member of Cedar Crest Cathedral CME for over 40 years and served faithfully until his illness
left him homebound . Over the years , he’s received many accolades and honors but his biggest
accomplishment was taking care of his family and loved ones . His love of family had no boundaries and
his work ethic was unmatched . He was honest in his dealings , a man of his word , a natural born leader,
role model and father to the fatherless . Even during his illness he displayed strength , courage , integrity
and a faith that could move mountains . His larger than life presence will be missed but he will forever
live in the heart’s and minds of those who knew and loved him . This remarkable man was preceded in

I met Sammy in 1971. A man that would light any room up with his presence, loved by all and I truly mean that. I had the honor and privilege of working with Sammy and in that process got to know the man. There will never be another Sammy Pearson. Loved him so! With the Lord now without a doubt. Vinson
