Obituary of Evelyn R Traylor

Please share a memory of Evelyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Evelyn Reeves Traylor was born in Dallas, Texas, on May 16, 1928, to the parentage of the late Ashton Harvey, Sr. and Katie Mae Reeves. A servant of God, loving mother, nourishing grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt.
The official church roll at New Hope Baptist Church will show that Evelyn Traylor became a member on Easter Sunday in 1943. She was the longest serving member of Dallas’ oldest African American church. During her time at New Hope, Mrs. Traylor sung in the Junior Choir, Ambassador Choir and the Chancel Choir. She also played for the choir at various times. Moreover, she worked with the Solace Committee, a longtime member of the Deaconess Counsel and Vanguard Sunday School Class.
Her most enduring and indelible contribution to New Hope was the 35 years she spent as Church Secretary and was quickly called out of retirement to work part-time as the Financial Clerk, a temporary job that she would hold for more than 10 years.
Mrs. Traylor received her education in Dallas, Texas, and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and Eureka Business College.
She is preceded in death by Otis Traylor, her husband of 69 years; her daughter, Rosalind Traylor Jackson; granddaughter, Shurhetta Traylor; grandparents; her parents; three brothers; six sisters; and nieces and nephews.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her two daughters: Marilyn Russell and husband, Daryl Sr., and Madelyn Traylor; two granddaughters: Delaina and Kamisha Jackson; one grandson, Daryl Russell II and wife, Alison; two great-grandsons: Dee Traylor and DeVaughdric Ross; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Reeves; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
